What is 2048 Game
2048 is a sliding puzzle played on a 4 by 4 grid. Every move pushes all the tiles in one direction, and when two tiles with the same number touch they merge into one worth double. A new tile appears after each move, and your goal is to keep merging until you build a tile that reads 2048. It runs entirely in your browser and saves your best score on your device.
How to use
- Press New game to deal the first two tiles.
- Slide with the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or swipe on the board on a phone.
- Tap the on-screen arrow buttons if you prefer, they work on any device.
- Merge two tiles of the same number to double their value and add to your score.
- Keep combining to reach the 2048 tile. Choose Keep going to chase an even higher score.
When to use it
Waiting for something and want a puzzle that rewards planning over speed? Start a game, keep your biggest tile in one corner and feed smaller ones into it. Your best score is saved on the device, so the next round you already have a number to beat, whether that is your first 512 tile or a hard-won 2048.

How do you win 2048?

Yes. Your highest score is stored in your browser's local storage on the device you play on. It stays between sessions in the same browser, but it is not shared across devices and is cleared if you wipe your browser data.
When does the game end?
The game ends when the grid is full and no two neighbouring tiles share a number, so no move can merge anything. Until then there is always at least one legal move.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The board scales to your screen and you play by swiping in any direction or using the on-screen buttons, so it works the same on phones, tablets and computers.
