What is Date Difference Calculator

This date difference calculator finds the exact gap between any two dates. Enter a start date and an end date, and you get the difference broken down into years, months, and days, plus totals in weeks, hours, and minutes. It works in both directions: past or future. Swap the dates with one click to reverse the calculation.

How to use

  1. Enter a start date in the first field.
  2. Enter an end date in the second field.
  3. Read the difference in years, months, and days at the top.
  4. Check the totals below for weeks, hours, and minutes.
  5. Click Swap dates to reverse the order if needed.

When to use it

Need to know how many days are left until a deadline three months out? Enter today as the start date and the deadline as the end date, and you get the exact count in days and weeks right away. It is handy for planning sprint cycles, counting down to a launch, or checking how long you have to prepare, all without reaching for a calendar.

Frequently asked questions

How is the difference calculated?

The calculator subtracts the earlier date from the later one. It counts complete years first, then complete months, then remaining days. The total days, weeks, hours, and minutes figures are based on the raw number of calendar days between the two dates.

What does the 'ago' or 'from now' label mean?

If the end date is after the start date, the result shows 'from now' (the end is in the future relative to the start). If the end date is before the start date, it shows 'ago' (the end has already passed). Either way, the numbers are always positive.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. The total days count includes all leap days between the two dates, so a range spanning a February 29 will count that day correctly.

What happens with end-of-month dates like January 31?

When you add one month to January 31, February does not have 31 days, so the calculator treats it as the last day of February. For example, January 31 to March 1 is shown as 1 month and 1 day.

Can I share a link with my dates pre-filled?

Yes. The URL updates automatically as you enter dates. Copy the link from the address bar or use the Share button, and anyone who opens it will see your dates already loaded.
